Today at the Vicarage : The Vicarage

My email server has suddenly discovered several weeks worth of emails which have been floating in "e land", wherever that particular hell may be.

Amongst them I discovered this suggestion for the three in a row game, which, I do not recall seeing before.

Reverend Sir:

From the Vicarage, you suggest a "three-in-a-row" game. I should like to commend to your attention the last three songs of the (original) Who's Next album:
"Goin'Mobile"
"Behind Blue Eyes"
"Won't Get Fooled Again"

Not only do these three provide a pretty clear spectrum of what the Who were capable of in their prime; and not only are the transitions between the songs clean, sharp, and dramatic: WGFA all by itself is, for a certain generation (mine own, the immediate post-Beatles generation),the defining moment of rock'n'roll: after the pulsing organ break, the re-entry of the band, coupled with Daltrey's extended scream of "Yeaaaaaaah," are the essence of youthful energy that, after all, is what created rock music and to this day supports it as a continuing endeavor (artistic and commercial).

Blessings for the New Year from California.

Dan'l Danehy-Oakes

I recall seeing the Who at Wembley Arena, and the exact moment which Dan'l describes, the reentry of the band in WGFA - complete with a bank of white lights blinding the audience, remains in my mind.
